The Blyth Town Regeneration Proposals and the Energising Blyth Survey
16 October 2020
Really good news for everyone in Blyth.
The Blyth Town Regeneration Proposals and the Energising Blyth Survey.
NCC are now preparing to move forward with the investment and redevelopment of the town centre.
The proposals include;
The market square will have an arts and culture hub where the market toilets currently are. Stalls will be located all along the current Market.
The Energy Central Institute - The campus provides learning and development facilities, harnessing the skills of local people inspiring STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics) career pathways from school age to higher education. Subject to site acquisition, it will be located on the current Arriva bus depot, a site which has no external animation and does not draw people into the town centre.
The Laurel Hotel - 4 storey, 42 bed hotel on what is currently the bus station site, with a family friendly food and beverage offer on the ground floor.
The Link - These interventions will provide an important physical link between the other interventions as well as from the town centre to the Quayside. The project compliments planned future improvements between Bridge Street and Quay Road which will be delivered as part of a gateway improvement programme and wider strategic transport infrastructure in the town.
Northumberland County Council is encouraging everyone who lives, works, visits or runs a business in the town to give feedback on the area’s future as part of the first step in agreeing a new Town Deal which could secure up to £25m investment.
